The list of new retail projects continues to grow with the announcement of Ross Dress For Less coming to the Village Mall. The family retailer will be taking over space formally occupied by Goody’s…. Ross Dress for Less specializes in clothing for men, women, and children at discount prices. Permitting for renovation work has been approved and will begin soon.
In an example of kids working for the benefit of others, 6 Peer Court youth and two adults worked recently to uncover the brick sidewalk on Oak St. South of Seminary at the Art League Property in Danville. Sandy Calhoun of the West Downtown Neighborhood Group coordinated the project.. Steve Lane with City of Danville provided the tools from the PRIDE Grows program and together they all made a difference for their community.
And the Danville AMBUCS has presented an AM Tryke to an area veteran. The local service club worked closely with the VA Illiana Health Care System’s Therapy Department to identify Veterans who could benefit from an AmTryke. Danville member Bill Fulton is playing a key role nationally in leading this program for veterans.

In just the first 3 months of 2012, local economic development officials have reported work underway on 13 projects with a combined investment of over $100 million dollars.
These projects include the announced $8 million dollar, 100,000 square-foot expansion at Watchfire… The Tilton County Market redevelopment , the TH Snyder relocation as well as the North Vermilion retail project …
.Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries announced the opening of a new store in Danville at the corner of Gilbert and Fairchild Streets in late April. The store’s opening means 12 new jobs to the Danville economy including supervisory positions. The store will be open 7-days a week and this will mark the 10th Goodwill retail store location in Central Illinois.
And this month marks the 30th Anniversary of Vicki Haugen being named the Director of the Economic Development Corporation which has since become the Vermilion Advantage. Congratulations to Vicki for this milestone, and thank you for your continued leadership.

This week the March Forth Moment salutes the inductees into the Vermilion County Business Hall of Fame.
C.S. Paxton was a coal miner who had big dreams for his family. He opened a small store in Georgetown in 1903, called it Grab-It-Here, and began a company which grew to 70 locations within a 75-mile radius of Danville.
Lou and Sybil Mervis have been strong community supporters for decades. Education, Economic and Community Development have been just a few areas they have provided passionate leadership for Vermilion County.
Kish Bookwalter was a lawyer and businessman who began his successful career the early 1900’s. He is best remembered as the man who in 1946 built Danville Stadium.
And, Big Jim Darby, who began in the cemetery business in 1947, has built a family operated company that is now a national leader in many facets of his industry. In 2009 Jim wrote a memoir entitled “No One Looks Up to A Gravedigger”…

VA Focus Groups
The VA Illiana Health Care System will be conducting focus groups for the Veterans who receive care in Danville, IL to tell the VA how they're doing in providing care and services. Focus groups will take place Wednesday May 22nd and Thursday May 23rd at various times throughout the day. Travel pay is not authorized for. 49th Annual Turtle Reunion Races
Knights of Columbus present the 49th annual Turtle Reunion Races on Saturday June 1st, 2013 from 12pm to 8pm at 310 Bryant Avenue in Danville, IL. There will be turtle races, food, and beverages, a 50/50 drawing, and fun for all. All proceeds will be donated to help those children with developmental disabilities. 49th Annual Turtle Races
