The Eastern Illinois Foodbank has announced a truckload of free food will be distributed in Hoopeston on Saturday, February 10th. The Foodbank is partnering with the John P. Cadle Foundation for the distribution to area families who qualify. The distribution will be held from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. at the McFerren Park Civic Center.
All Vermilion County residents needing food are welcome to attend the event. To be eligible, a household must have an income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level, or about $3,746 for a family of four.
A single person with a monthly income of $1,859 or less qualifies for the food. So does a couple whose income is $2,504 or less per month. Here is information on others who qualify for the food:
- A family of 3 with a maximum income of $3,148 qualifies.
- A family of 5 can have a monthly income up to $4,437.
- A family of 6 can have a monthly income up to $5,081.
- Data released by Feeding America, the nation’s network of food banks, shows 14-percent of people living in eastern Illinois are considered to be food insecure. It means they sometimes lack adequate access to food.
Local companies or organizations are invited to contribute toward a one day food distribution. The cost to partner with the Foodbank for a distribution is $3,000.
