A 15-year-old Danville youth was taken into custody Saturday (February 10th, 2018) after leading police on a high-speed chase spanning parts of two states. The name of the juvenile is not being released.
Vermillion County Indiana Sheriff’s Police say the young man who was arrested was driving a driving a stolen vehicle. The chase traveled through parts of Vermilion County Illinois before traveling across U.S. route 136 into Indiana, then south along State Road 63. Sheriff’s Police in Fountain and Vermillion Counties in Indiana say speeds reached 110 to 120 miles per hour at times.
The chase ended when a Parke County Deputy deployed spike strips and the youth took evasive action. The southbound vehicle entered the median of route 63, crossed the northbound lanes and then came to a stop in a grassy area.
The youth is facing several felony and misdemeanor charges in both Indiana and Illinois. He was treated at Union Hospital in Clinton for minor injuries and was then released to juvenile detention authorities.
The chase involved Danville Police, Vermilion County Illinois Sheriff’s deputies, Covington Police, Cayuga Town Marshals, and sheriff’s police from Fountain, Vermillion and Parke counties in Indiana.
