There have been some dramatic rescues in our area associated with the flooding. In Champaign County a woman was rescued near St. Joseph Wednesday morning. And Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police rescued a woman whose car was swept off a road in the northern part of the county Wednesday.
Saint Joseph-Stanton Fire Chief Josh Reese says emergency personnel were dispatched around 10:30 Wednesday morning on a report that an S-U-V along County Road 17-hundred north was sinking in floodwaters….
Reese says the woman was not alert when she was loaded into an ambulance, but was conscious and breathing and is expected to survive. Chief Reese noted there were signs posted stating that the road was closed but she apparently went around them.
In Vermilion County…Sheriff’s Captain Eric Deck says deputies rescued a woman from the top of her vehicle after it was swept off County Road 3800 North by floodwaters. Deck says the woman was hanging onto her car in the 32-degree weather. Although she was wet and cold Deck says the woman is expected to be alright.
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police also used a boat to reach some people in the Potomac area and Seaton Hill area (north of Danville) Wednesday. And deputies went door-to-door by boat in the Morin’s Addition west of Danville to make sure everyone was safely evacuated.
Danville Police and Firefighters were on hand there to assist. Those are just some of the areas where emergency personnel have been busy since the flooding began.
