A Vermilion County Circuit Court jury has found an Indianapolis man not guilty of the shooting death of a man outside a local bar four years ago. Jurors found 34-year-old DeJuan Alexander not guilty of first-degree murder charges stemming from the shooting death of 25-year-old Demarre Tetter.
The jury also found Alexander not guilty of aggravated battery with a firearm charges. The defendant had faced that charge in connection with the wounding of 39-year-old Sheldon Pittman of Danville.
Both of the victims were shot in the area of a parking lot outside Deuce’s Tavern along North Vermilion Street on March 16th, 2014.
This was the second trial for Alexander on the charges. His first trial was in October of 2016 and ended with the judge declaring a mistrial when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision. They had deliberated over two days in that first trial. In the trial which ended this afternoon (Friday, March 2, 2018) the jury deliberated about four hours.
