Danville is now listed among the AARP network of ‘Age-Friendly Communities’. The membership shows the city’s commitment to quality of life improvements for all members of the community.
Nearly 15-percent of Danville residents are 65 years of age or older. In order to serve that age of the population – and others – Danville offers 17 parks, miles of bike-friendly infrastructure, and thriving cultural activities, according to City Planner Cole Jackson. He notes that in 2015, the City adopted a regional bike plan, and in 2017, the City completed an ADA transition plan allowing incremental improvements in accessibility.
Jackson says the City plans to establish an age-friendly community task force to provide comments to the City’s Community Development Department. The City will then create a plan of action incorporating the comments and ideas of the task force.
