Patriotism appears to be alive and well in Danville as thousands of people braved extreme heat Monday for the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Danville National Cemetery.
The event included a motorcycle parade with members of the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders…the laying of wreaths and patriotic music from the Danville Municipal Band…
The keynote speaker was Marine Corp Veteran Robert Dartt of rural Danville who served as a platoon leader in Vietnam….
Dartt read from the citation papers where he was awarded the Silver Star for his actions in Vietnam. Dart noted the citation is impressive, but added, ‘’I’m no hero. I was just taking care of my men.’’
And, if you were unable to make it to the ceremony at the Danville National Cemetery, this song – sung by Miles Clark – gives another example that patriotism was in the air…
Several Veterans from the nearby Illiana Health Care System were transported to the cemetery so they could enjoy the event.
The annual event is sponsored by the Joint Veterans Council.
