Some area residents are cleaning up limbs or other debris following strong thunderstorms which rolled through the area this evening (Thursday). We received no reports of any serious damage to buildings however some trees, limbs and power poles were downed by the strong winds.
The Emergency Management Agency in Champaign County says 20 power poles were snapped off and some young corn was damaged near St. Joseph. The Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency received reports of three-quarter inch hail about five miles northeast of Danville and four trees down southeast of Danville. A large tree also fell across East Main Street on Danville’s east side…near Michigan Avenue during the storm.
Wind gusts were estimated at 60 miles per hour…which could potentially damage roofs, siding and trees.
A crew from Ameren was working to resolve the problem where the power poles were snapped near St. Joseph.
The storm system dumped heavy rain in the Danville area before moving into western Indiana. In Fountain County two power poles were blown down near Perrysville.
On the Illinois side of the state line two inches of rain was reported at Chrisman in Edgar County from the storm system.
