The Vermilion County Coroner has released the name of the man who was fatally shot by Danville Police Tuesday morning. Coroner Jane McFadden says the victim is 34-year-old Danathe Gulliford of Danville.
The name was released late last night. Coroner McFadden says it had been withheld until family members could be notified. She says an autopsy was performed Tuesday and the results are pending.
Illinois State Police and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office continue their investigation into the death.
Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason had said earlier that the victim was shot by two Danville Police Officers after police stopped his vehicle in connection with a domestic disturbance. Thomason says the victim ignored repeated requests to show his hands, and then displayed a gun…and it was shortly thereafter that both officers fired their weapons.
