The Danville District 118 School Board is endorsing plans to explore acquiring some land along the north edge of Holiday Hills, and possibly using other locations, for outdoor education purposes. The school board sees the venture as an effort to expose students to problem-based learning and real-world experiences in an effort to prepare them for college and careers.
Other locations being considered are at Danville High School, South View Upper Elementary School, and Southwest and Edison Elementary Schools.
The land would be used for gardens and other activities, similar to what Danville Area Community College is doing with some land on Daisy Lane on Danville’s east side.
Interested teachers would develop a multi-year plan detailing a problem-based learning lesson. One plan would be implemented during the 2019-2020 school year. And upon successful implementation of the selected plan opportunities would be opened for additional teachers to apply for the program.
