A retired Special Victims Detective, author, educator and motivational speaker will be in Danville today (Friday, June 15, 2018), talking about child abuse. Kevin McNeil is the guest speaker at a forum being hosted at Danville Area Community College by the Vermilion County Rape Crisis Center.
McNeil helps agencies to measure the effects of abuse and educates the public on how to recognize and report abuse to the proper authorities.
The Vermilion County Rape Crisis Center is looking for volunteers with an interest in helping those affected by sexual violence. Volunteer opportunities include responding to crisis calls and providing support and advocacy at the emergency room for victims who seek medical attention. Other opportunities include fundraising, office assistance, community and prevention education and court advocacy.
Volunteers are provided 40 hours of training on topics related to Sexual Violence and Crisis Intervention. Volunteers must be at least 18, pass a criminal and DCFS background check, and have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
