Business and accounting students attending Danville Area Community College will now be able to get both a bachelor’s degree in business accounting and an MBA. DACC President Stephen Nacco says Franklin University made Danville Area Community College an offer that could not be refused.
Over the past six months, Franklin University has been working with DACC’s Articulation Director – Stephane Potts, and Accounting Professor Brian Fink to develop a customized program for DACC’s business and accounting students.
President Nacco says what Franklin University offered ‘’knocked our socks off as a real benefit to our students and local residents.’’
The first program is a bachelor’s in business accounting. As with all 30 of the ‘’3 + 1” programs at DACC, students earn an associate degree and take an additional 33 hours at DACC – at DACC prices. Then they take the final 30 hours toward the 120-hour bachelor’s in business accounting degree from Franklin University…which is located in Ohio.
For the special program in business accounting, Franklin is discounting the tuition by 20-percent – to $407 per credit. As a result the fourth year costs $12,210 – for a savings of over $3,000. The grand total for both the associate and bachelor’s degree is under $26-thousand dollars. And Franklin will pay for the DACC student’s books for the fourth year – for an additional savings of $875.
The second new program is a master’s degree in business accounting. While students in the Franklin DACC bachelor’s in business accounting are automatically eligible for this MBA program, most college graduates with a B.S. in business would be welcome into the program.
President Nacco says what Franklin offers locally for the 36-hour masters program is a discount of nearly $7,000 for DACC students, for a total cost of $16,864 for the MBA. The university is also providing all the books and learning materials for free, which saves the student an additional $1,125.
The fourth year of the bachelor’s degree and the entire MBA are online classes with Franklin University faculty. To help ensure that DACC students are able to succeed in this program, the College has dedicated a computer lab in the Tech Center on the Danville campus exclusively for Franklin University classes. ‘’The Franklin University Lab will be available for Franklin students whenever DACC is open,’’ said Stacy Ehmen, Dean of Student Services at Danville Area Community College. And DACC has agreed to provide tutoring whenever a Franklin University student requests one.
