A Danville woman who is charged with murdering her wife claims she is innocent. Forty-nine year old Shelley A. Murphy made her initial court appearance via a video link between the Public Safety Building and Rita B. Garman Vermilion County Courthouse.
Judge Karen Wall explained the charges and possible penalties the defendant faces on three counts of first-degree murder. And Shelley Murphy then pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the death of 61-year-old Daye Lynn Murphy.

Chief Vermilion County Sheriff’s Investigator Michael Hartshorn says deputies were called to a residence in the 500 block of Vance Lane (west of Danville) on Wednesday evening. He said the caller reported there was someone there deceased.
Hartshorn says investigators determined that Daye Lynn Murphy had been involved in a physical altercation with her wife on Sunday, July 22nd. He says the investigation determined Daye Lynn Murphy died as the result of injuries suffered in that altercation.
Judge Wall set bond for Shelley Murphy at $1-million dollars and set an arraignment date for early next month. The defendant was then ordered remanded to jail in lieu of bond. She could be released from custody if 10-percent of the bond is posted.
