This year’s Georgetown Fair is being dedicated to Local Law Enforcement. Each year the Georgetown Fair is dedicated to an individual or group that has influenced the fair and deserves special recognition.
In selecting local law enforcement teams for the recognition, the Georgetown Fair Board noted safety is a large part of organizing the annual event. The Georgetown Police Department and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department are key to providing a safe event each year, says the dedication. It notes long hours, unexpected weather events and large crowds are all part of their annual call of duty.
The dedication statement also notes the law enforcement officers ‘’are the friendly faces and members of our communities that we interact with daily. However daily conversations are secondary to providing security and safety to our fair patrons,’’ says the Fair Board.
Over the years, law enforcement has helped with security for special visitors at the Georgetown Fair. Law year, for example, the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture attended the fair (shown in photo).
‘’It is with a sense of pride and appreciation that the 2018 Georgetown Fair is dedicated to our local law enforcement teams,’’ adds the statement that is printed inside this year’s Georgetown Fair handbook.
The fair runs August 4th – 11th at the Georgetown Fairgrounds.
