Danville is hosting its fourth American Legion State Golf Tournament this weekend. About two-hundred golfers will be participating in the tournament which is being played on both the Turtle Run and Harrison Park golf courses.
Greg Alpers, Tournament Director, says Champaign has hosted the tournament for thirty-six years, but when the tournament director there died the tournament was discontinued. Then Alpers approached the American Legion with a proposal to bring it to Danville….
Jeanie Cooke, Director of the Danville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, is glad to see it being played here….
And Alpers says there will be a special opening ceremony at 8 o’clock Saturday morning at the Harrison Park golf course….
Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer will be welcoming the players at that opening ceremony.
