Some residents of northern Vermilion County were still cleaning up the mess early Tuesday (August 7, 2018) after strong thunderstorms blew through the area Monday evening. No injuries were reported and apparently there was no severe damage to homes or other buildings. However the strong winds left streets littered with leaves and limbs, and a few large trees were also blown over in the Rankin and Henning areas.
Vermilion County Highway Department employees were dispatched to help with the clean-up efforts. And this….
was a familiar sound in the area as residents cleared downed limbs.
Scott Howe was cutting limbs in his yard and described the storm to VermilionCountyFirst.com News…
[Howe was describing the storm which hit Monday evening in Rankin.]
The storm also knocked out power to hundreds of customers, but by early Tuesday most of the power had been restored. The storms also dumped heavy rain and some hail was also reported. There were no immediate reports on whether the hail caused any damage, though.
