New unemployment figures are mixed in our area. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says Vermilion County’s jobless rate improved slightly last month, but Danville’s unemployment rate rose.
Vermilion County’s jobless rate fell from 6.0 percent in June to 5.9 for July. Danville saw its unemployment rate rise from 6.9 percent in June to 7.4 percent last month.
Champaign County’s unemployment rate fell slightly from 4.7 to 4.5 percent. Edgar and Iroquois counties also saw slight improvements.
In Edgar County the jobless rate fell by one-tenth of a percent from 4.6 to 4.5 percent. Iroquois County saw its unemployment rate improve from 3.8 to 3.6 percent.
The report says Vermilion County saw gains of 100 jobs each over the year in the Professional and Business Services….Education and Health Services, and Leisure and Hospitality categories. But the county lost 100 jobs in each of the categories of Trade, Transportation and Utilities….Information….Wholesale Trade….Financial Activities….and Government sectors.
Vermilion County’s July unemployment rate of 5.9 percent is down from 6.8 percent in July of last year.
