Some members of the group Moving Danville Forward were in the audience last night as a city council committee discussed how much future city leaders should be paid. Moving Danville Forward is the committee which is promoting changing Danville to the City Manager – Aldermanic form of government.
Alderman Steve Nichols says he would support paying a part-time mayor $30-thousand dollars a year….
Alderman Steve Foster suggested raising the salary for aldermen from $225 to $375 a month. Foster says if the city manager form of government is approved by voters in November, aldermen will have a lot more work to do….
Alderman Tom Stone says if Danville still has a full-time mayor after the fall vote he thinks the mayor’s salary should be raised to $100,000. Some aldermen suggested the treasurer’s salary should be raised to $87,000.
Discussions on the salaries will continue next month, but a new salary package must be approved by the city council by the end of September.
