The City of Danville is continuing to explore the possibility of getting two new railroad overpasses along Bowman Avenue near Fairchild Street. A Danville City Council committee is recommending the city approve phase one engineering for them. Community Development Director David Schnelle says it would allow engineering work to be completed for proposed overpasses above the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in case federal grant money is available someday.
Asked by alderwoman Sherry Pickering whether there has been safety concerns at those crossings, Schnelle responded…
Alderman Rickey Williams Jr. supports efforts to get the new overpasses….
Although there have been no fatalities at those crossings, there have been three fatal accidents at Danville railroad crossings over the past 18 months.
Members of the Public Works Committee are unanimously recommending the full council pursue both of the new rail overpasses.
