Council Members Weigh Fire SAFER Grant

Danville City Council members are weighing whether to accept a $1.1 million dollar federal SAFER grant.  It would pay 75-percent of the cost of hiring six new firefighters for two years, and in the third year would pay 35-percent of the cost.

Alderwoman Sherry Pickering is encouraging her fellow council members to accept it….

But Alderman Lloyd Randle is still concerned about overtime costs in the fire department…

The comments were made during a Danville City Council committee meeting last night.   Mayor Scott Eisenhauer is planning some study meetings where the SAFER grant will be discussed further.
