A new festival is coming to downtown Danville this fall. Plans are being finalized for the First Annual Pumpkin Festival to be held on Saturday, October 20th. The event is being sponsored by the Soul Garden Recovery Center along with Downtown Danville, Inc. and Danville Township. Soul Garden Recovery Center is a non-profit organization made up of people in recovery, those who support them and those who are affected by the addiction.
Events at the Pumpkin Festival will include Pumpkin Derby Races where kids put wheels on pumpkins and then race them, according to Dee Ann Ryan, a board member for Soul Garden Recovery Center. She says there will also be a ‘Witches Ride for Recovery’, involving women or girls who will ride their bikes from Lincoln Park to Downtown Danville. And in that evening (October 20th) there will also be a Pumpkin Glow, where people can bring their carved pumpkins to be placed on display.
Representatives from Danville’s First Annual Pumpkin Festival will be at the Vermilion River Festival at Ellsworth Park in Danville this weekend. Ryan says they will be selling kits for making entries for the Pumpkin Derby.
Ryan adds the family-friendly event is aimed at spreading the word that recovery and healing are possible, and to allow the community to be part of the solution.
