A Westville Boy Scout who built some recreational items for Veterans to enjoy in Danville is being recognized in Congress. Representative John Shimkus entered a statement into the permanent Congressional Record recognizing the exemplary community service of Donnie McMasters of Westville.
Donnie was a candidate for Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 234 when he worked to improve the lives of local veterans at Cannon Place. It is an apartment building for formerly homeless veterans and their families.
‘’Donnie expanded the entertainment of the residents by building four corn hole sets, a game board set, and a horseshoe pit,’’ said Shimkus. ‘’He also added stepping stone walkways, set in mulch and bordered with logs, as well as fixed two flower beds.’’
‘’This young man’s dedication and hard work means that today some of our veterans can spend time outside with their families enjoying the games and landscaping he provided,’’ said Representative Shimkus. ‘’I want to acknowledge the efforts of Donnie McMasters to bring joy to our nation’s veterans and congratulate him on completing his Eagle Scout Project,’’ added Shimkus.
