A young Rantoul woman is dead as the result of injuries suffered early Thursday in an accident along U.S. route 45 near Leverett Road in Champaign County. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says the victim is 23-year-old Shana Outlaw. Illinois State Police say Outlaw had gotten out of her vehicle after it apparently had a mechanical problem.
A truck driven by a 30-year-old East Lynn man struck Outlaw’s vehicle…and one of those vehicles then struck the victim.
There were three children traveling with Outlaw – ages 6, 4 and 8 months – all also from Rantoul. They were taken to a Champaign-Urbana hospital with what was described as non-life threatening injuries, according to information released to VermilionCountyFirst.com News by State Police.
The truck involved rolled over in the roadway, coming to a rest on its top. Outlaw’s vehicle was knocked off the road and overturned in a ditch. The crash occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning (September 13, 2018).
The East Lynn man who was driving the truck has been charged with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
The Champaign County Coroner says Outlaw was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital from multiple traumatic injuries suffered in the crash. He says an inquest may be held later.
