Danville Council Pursues Railroad Crossing Improvements

Danville City Council members have authorized phase one engineering work for improvements in the area of two Bowman Avenue railroad crossings.  Danville Community Development Director David Schnelle says  grade separation projects are being proposed at the CSX and Norfolk Southern crossings near Fairchild Street….

The council voted 10 to 2 to approve the use of $1.5 million dollars in Motor Fuel Tax Funds for the engineering agreement between the city and Hanson Professional Services.   City Council members want to get the plans for the projects ready just in case some state or federal grant money becomes available.  Grants paid for almost all of the cost of the Fairchild Street overpass located just west of Bowman Avenue.

Danville City Council members also agreed to pursuit railroad safety improvements and a Quiet Zone designation in the area of the Griffin Street CSX Railroad crossing (near Garfield Park) and the Norfolk Southern crossing on Voorhees Street.
