Vermilion County Crash Claims a Life

A crash involving a grain truck and another vehicle near Allerton late Tuesday has left a Fairmount man dead.  Illinois State Police say 66-year-old Jay Hageman was pronounced dead on the scene following the crash which occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m.

According to the preliminary report from Illinois State Police Hageman was driving a truck tractor/grain hauler southbound on County Road 250 East when his vehicle apparently failed to stop at a stop sign.  Twenty-nine year old Austin Richard of Homer was driving eastbound on County Road 300 North when his vehicle was struck by Hageman’s truck.  Richard was transported to an area hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The location where the crash occurred is about half-way between Sidell and Allerton.
