A Danville alderman says he will join the race to be the city’s mayor. Ward 6 Alderman Steve Nichols has picked up a petition packet at the Danville Board of Election Commission to run for mayor.
Nichols says it is something he has wanted to do, but did not want to run as long as current Mayor Scott Eisenhauer was in the position. ‘’Scott always did a good job,’’ Nichols told VermilionCountyFirst.com News. ‘’I think it’s the right time (to run now),’’ added Nichols.
Nichols says he believes his business and public sector experience make him a good choice to take over the mayor’s position. He still has two more years left in his term as Ward 6 Alderman.
On November 6th, Danville voters will decide whether or not to switch to having a city manager and a part-time mayor. Nichols says if that vote passes he would not be interested in being only a part-time mayor.
