New unemployment figures are out showing Vermilion County and East Central Illinois are experiencing some very low jobless rates.
‘’The unemployment rate continues to decline in most metros,’’ says Illinois Department of Employment Security Director Jeff Mays. He says Illinois saw its lowest number of unemployment claims filed in the month of September in forty-five years.
Vermilion County’s unemployment rate for September was 5.1 percent, down from 5.9 percent in August. Danville’s jobless rate for September stood at 5.6 percent…down from 6.9 in August.
Non-farm employment in Vermilion County increased by 200 from its level a year ago, according to the report. Comparing September of this year to where the numbers stood a year ago, the report shows Vermilion County has gained 200 jobs in the Education & Health Services sector…100 jobs in Wholesale Trade….and another 100 jobs in the Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities sector. But the county lost 100 jobs in the Government & Financial Activities category since September of 2017.
In Edgar County the jobless rate for September was 4.0 percent, down from 4.6 percent in August. Iroquois County’s unemployment rate fell from 3.9 to 3.7 percent. And in Champaign County, the September unemployment rate of 3.8 percent was down from 4.5 in August.
