The Illinois State Board of Education is releasing its report cards today on how public schools are performing. And things are improving according to the report.
Assistant Danville District 118 School Superintendent Beth Yacobi noted the goal of tests to determine the results shifted this year….
Yacobi noted the Danville High School graduation rate has improved significantly, climbing to 75.3 percent from its earlier 70.9. And Yacobi notes the district has been doing more to give extra help to students who need it….
But Yacobi adds there is still work to do….
The report shows chronic absenteeism has been running at 20 percent at several Danville Public Schools. But Yacobi notes that number includes students who have been suspended and those with chronic illnesses.
In the Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin School District the report shows the high school graduation rate was 96.7 percent. Salt Fork and Oakwood High Schools each saw 95.6 percent of their students graduate.
None of the Danville District 118 Schools made the ‘Exemplary’ list of the top 10-percent of the schools in the state. Six Danville schools received a ‘Commendable’ designation, meaning their school had no under-performing student groups and a graduation rate greater than 67 percent. They are Danville High School, Southwest Elementary, Northeast Elementary, Liberty Elementary and Garfield Elementary School. North Ridge Middle School and Edison and Mark Denman Elementary were placed in the category of Under-performing Schools, And Meade Park Elementary and South View Upper Elementary School are in the Lowest Performing category. But Assistant Superintendent Yacobi notes the State Board of Education is still in the process of changing the test, so school designations could change in future years.
