It looks as though there could be a crowded field in the race for Danville Mayor in the 2019 City Primary Election. There are now six people who have expressed an interest in the office.
Danville’s new acting mayor, Rickey Williams Junior, says he intends to run. A man who ran for mayor before – James McMahon – has picked up a packet at the Danville Board of Election Commission saying he plans to run for mayor. Others who say they plan to run for Danville mayor are aldermen Steve Nichols, Dan Duncheon and Lloyd Randle. Danville resident Donald Crews has also picked up a petition packet saying he plans to run for mayor.
In addition to the mayor, half of the 14 city council seats will be up for grabs in the 2019 Municipal Election. The city treasurer’s position will also be on the ballot.
Those who plan to run file their petitions with the Danville Board of Elections between November 19th and 26th.
It will not be known until after Tuesday’s election whether the Danville mayor’s position will continue to be a full-time job. If the vote passes Tuesday to have a city manager form of government the mayor’s job will become part-time following the elections next spring.
