Work on replacing a key bridge in Danville is advancing, and the new Stoney Creek bridge along Voorhees Street should be open to traffic by Christmas. Crews have been busy pouring the new concrete deck for the bridge, which is located west of Bowman Avenue.
Voorhees is a key east-west route across Danville and the road has been closed in that area for months.
Meanwhile city leaders have learned another Danville project will be on the State of Illinois’ spring bid-letting. It involves some road and sanitary sewer improvements. Danville Community Development Director David Schnelle explained the project earlier…
The project will include a new walkway for pedestrians which will be adjacent to the Dallas Bowman Bridge over Lake Vermilion. Another improvement that might come in that area later is a round-about intersection where West Winter Street meets Logan Avenue and Denmark Road. But Schnelle says although it has been discussed, it would be up to the Danville City Council to decide whether to place a round-about there. And it would also be contingent upon finding the necessary funds.
