Danville School District 118 is adding two additional classrooms to house Pre-K children. The classes are slated to begin next month at Edison Elementary School.
Kelly Truex, Director of Educational Support Programs for District 118, says Pre-K is extremely important for most children since it provides opportunities for socialization with other children along with learning early academic skills. ‘’We are proud that our program is state-recognized, earning the distinction of ‘Gold’ status with many teacher, student and family supports,’’ said Truex.
District 118 is the administrative agent for the Pre-K program throughout Vermilion County. Other classrooms are located in Armstrong, Bismarck, Georgetown, Hoopeston, Potomac, Rossville, Westville, Catlin and Jamaica. Several of the county programs are currently accepting students.
Truex says hopefully these additional classrooms will help eliminate a waiting list. Two pre-school teachers and two teaching assistants will be hired to teach in the new classrooms. ‘’With recent screenings and the current waiting list, we are excited to offer approximately 100 additional students school readiness opportunities,’’ added Truex.
Monthly preschool screenings are held to identify students. Upcoming screening dates include February 7, 2019 at Ridgeview Baptist Church, February 14, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church in Georgetown, February 21, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Hoopeston, and February 28, 2019 at Catlin United Methodist Church.
