As the Great American Smoke-Out was being observed Thursday, a local oncologist noted that nationwide, there has been a slow – but modest decrease in the overall cancer rate. Dr. Jomel Labayog says early detection is the key to advances being made in fighting cancer….
Dr. Labayog was speaking on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers program as part of the observance of lung cancer awareness month. He says there are nearly 100 cases of lung cancer a year in Vermilion County. And overall, he noted Vermilion County rates high when it comes to cancer….
Dr. Labayog has been practicing at what is now the Bobette Steeley Hegeler Cancer Care Center in Danville since 1997. It is part of the operations of OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville.
