A hearing which had been expected to occur Thursday on a complaint filed in the proposal to change Danville’s form of government was postponed in Springfield. A hearing officer for the Illinois State Board of Elections was expected to hear arguments in a complaint filed by Jerry Hawker. He claimed earlier that the group supporting the change to a city manager form of government had violated state election codes because Moving Danville Forward was not the name supporters used when they filed papers with the State Board of Elections.
Matt Dietrich, a spokesman for the State Board of Elections, says the hearing officer’s recommendation would have been heard by the full board on Monday. Now the Board of Elections expects Hawker’s petition to be withdrawn. It will not be considered at Monday’s full board meeting.
Hawker has said he intends to run for Ward 2 Alderman next year. The filing period for candidates begins Monday for those interested in running for the Danville City Council, Mayor and City Treasurer.
