Tilton Mayor Optimistic About Development Chances

Tilton Mayor David Phillips is upbeat about chances for more development now that some new traffic signals are going up along Illinois route one in that community.  Phillips notes it has taken years to get the State of Illinois to agree to the lights and a new access road for the area….

Phillips says construction on a new Mach 1 Travel Plaza is set to begin in the area (near Vermilion Chevrolet) early next year.  And others have expressed an interest in the 30 acres still available in that area for development.  He says that includes agents from Chicago representing big box stores and some restaurants.  But for now, only Mach One is definitely coming.

It was years ago that members of the Vermilion County Board debated whether to approve an exit off the south side of Interstate 74 at Lynch Road.  Some board members argued about the road leading into a cornfield that ‘’if you build it – they will come.’’  Now that area includes several industries.

Mayor Phillips agrees with that line of thinking…

The Tilton mayor adds they are not trying to hurt Danville.  He says they just want to develop an area where shoppers can have a good mix in order to keep sales here instead of losing them to Champaign-Urbana.
