As area residents prepare to hit the road for the holidays, Illinois State Police are reminding you to be safe. District 10 Public Safety Officer Joseph Rush says speed is one thing that could not only get you a ticket, it could be deadly….
If you are taking young children with you, Trooper Rush says remember the law requires certain children be in a rear-facing child restraint seat….
And if you should happen to get stranded in your vehicle, Trooper Rush says you should stay in it….
Before you possibly get stranded in severe weather State Police say you should make sure you have certain items with you – such as extra blankets, water, non-perishable food items, a flashlight and other items. It may be hours before someone rescues you as emergency personnel deal with more serious accidents. If there is heavy snow, you can run your engine for short periods of time to stay warm – but make sure the exhaust pipe is clear of snow.
