A West Saint Paul, Minnesota company wants to cover several acres with solar panels in an area west of Danville. The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission will consider the request from Novel Energy Solutions when it meets on January 3rd.
Danville Planning Manager Christopher Milliken says it is not a large development. Novel Energy Solutions is seeking three separate special use permits. Two are for the proposed construction of two separate 2 megawatt Community Solar Gardens. The third seeks a special use permit for construction of a 1 megawatt Community Solar Garden (large ground solar energy system). All of the developments are proposed in the Old Ottawa Road area, west of Danville.
Milliken says all of the area is currently farmland. He adds each 2 megawatt solar gardens being proposed would cover a little less than 10 acres. He adds other solar companies have also contacted the city about possibly constructing solar panel gardens locally. But Milliken says those companies are waiting on some state incentives which are scheduled to begin in 2019.
