A Lafayette, Indiana police officer is recovering after being shot by another officer Tuesday morning (January 8, 2019). Lafayette Police Lieutenant Brian Phillips says Officer Lane Butler is in serious but stable condition.
Lieutenant Phillips says Butler was injured when a dog attacked her and two others at an apartment building during the search for a person wanted on a warrant. Another officer opened fire, accidentally striking Butler when the bullet went through a door and hit the officer. The three-year veteran was wearing a protective vest, but the bullet struck her above the vest.
The incident remains under investigation. Lafayette’s police chief says he will release body camera footage of the shooting during a news conference on Friday.
