The City of Danville and School District 118 have resolved the problem involving an old sanitary sewer that was discovered beneath Garfield Elementary School. Community Development Director David Schnelle says it was too dangerous for workers to climb into a manhole where the problem was located….
Schnelle says they were able to get some bricks out by using something similar to a ‘’Toy Story claw’’. And now Schnelle says the City is looking to see whether there might be similar problems elsewhere around town….
Workers were then able to backfill the manhole allowing classes to continue uninterrupted at the school. School officials had earlier said that apparently no one realized the old sewer was there when a gymnasium was built above it.
