Area Lawmakers Launch New Session

Area lawmakers helped launch the 101st session of the Illinois General Assembly Wednesday.

Republican State Representative Mike Marron (R-Fithian) [shown here] said a big focus for him will be infrastructure issues….

State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) noted his last vote of the previous General Assembly session on Wednesday was one against a proposal to give 15-percent raises to certain state government department heads and positions that already pay six figures.  And Rose added those raises should certainly not be given ahead of increases for developmental disability providers, higher education, K-12 schools, or other worthy causes.

Rose is an Assistant Republican Leader for the Senate Republican Caucus.

State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) is hopeful he can build on his history of bipartisan legislative success as he begins his new term.  ‘’I’m hopeful that we can build upon the recent bipartisan successes we’ve had with historic education funding reform and passing a balanced budget,’’ said Barickman.

Fifty-Second District Senator Scott Bennett (shown here) is excited partially because he will be the incoming chairman of the Illinois Senate Agriculture Committee.

And Representative Tom Bennett, (who is an uncle of Scott Bennett), is also looking forward to getting the new session underway….
