Flames ripped through a Champaign church early today (Monday, January 21, 2019) as Champaign and Urbana firefighters fought the flames in brutally cold weather.
Firefighters responded to an automatic alarm at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church shortly after 3:00 a.m. Once on the scene they discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the church at 808 E. Bradley Avenue.
The fire was quickly upgraded to a second-alarm. Firefighters used aerial devices to fight the flames and remained on the scene hours later dousing any hot spots.
There have been no reports of any injuries. An investigation is getting underway to try to determine what caused the blaze.
