DACC Board Approves ”Well-Deserved Tribute”

Teams coming to this year’s NJCAA Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament will find Dick Shockey’s name on the court.  The late Shockey came up with the idea to bring the tournament to Danville, and then spearheaded efforts for 25 years to keep it here.

DACC Board President Dave Harby says it is a well-deserved tribute, adding Shockey served more than the college….

Harby noted Shockey (shown here) served in a key role as DACC’s Chief Financial Officer and helped guide changes around the campus…

Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco says naming the basketball court is a recognition for Shockey, but also recognition of all of the people who were behind him.

Also during their meeting Thursday evening the DACC Trustees approved an application seeking to the U.S. Department of Education seeking to acquire the former U.S. Army Reserve building located adjacent to the campus. Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco says if the college succeeds in acquiring the property it could potentially be used for a whole host of college programs.  He says they include everything from Workforce Development and Corporate Education classes to tractor-trailer training and sustainability programs.
