Twenty veterans who stay at the VA Illiana Health Care System’s Community Living Center in Danville were excited Wednesday as they moved into some new quarters. Health Systems Specialist Larkin Ray Harris says VA workers took a ‘’very plain’’ old portion of one of the buildings and renovated it….
Harris says they wanted to mirror the Veterans Village homes across the VA campus. She adds plans call for moving around 20 more veterans in March into a second ‘House’ in the Community Living Center. And then in a couple of years the veterans will move again to the Veteran’s Village – when two more ‘Houses’ are completed on the west side of the V.A. grounds.
[Veterans and VA staff pitched in Wednesday to help with the move.]
Eventually the number of ‘homes’ there will grow, according to Harris…
Harris ((shown here) was asked what happens to the newly renovated space once the new houses are completed at the Veterans Village…
And Harris added all of the work renovating space leading up to Wednesday’s move was done in-house (by VA employees).
Two new ‘houses’ are expected to be constructed at the Veterans Village on the west side of the Danville VA campus within four years.
Several veterans and volunteers donated their time Wednesday by traveling to the VA Illiana Health Care facility in Danville to assist with the move.
