The minimum wage will rise in stages before finally reaching the $15 an hour mark in six years. The first step will raise the minimum wage from its current $8.25 to $9.25 an hour effective January 1st, 2020.
Some lawmakers had earlier voiced concern about the increase saying they felt the legislation was rushed through. State Representative Mike Marron of Fithian was one of those who said he would like to have seen more discussion on how the change will impact downstate.
