The boardwalk along the Vermilion River near downtown Danville is going to be expanding. Keep Vermilion County Beautiful has agreed to provide funding to double the length of the boardwalk, which is located near the David S. Palmer Arena.
Steve Lane, Superintendent of Community Development for the City of Danville, says that is only part of the exciting improvements coming to that area. He is looking forward to nearly $800-thousand dollars in upgrades coming to nearby Ellsworth Park. And Lane adds once the dam at the park is removed it will open up some great recreational opportunities…
And Lane envisions Danville being an overnight stop for canoeists….
The City of Danville recently received word that it will receive a $374-thousand dollar state grant to help with upgrades at Ellsworth Park. The City will provide the other 50% of the funding with in-kind credit for work done by City crews making the upgrades.

The money will help fund a new restroom and concession building, new playground, shelter, a new basketball court, football field and a nine hole disc golf course…
And Lane says some improvements are coming to other parks, including the century old pavilion at Douglas Park.
