A prison-based educational program at the Danville Correctional Center received a special delivery Monday – some boxes of dictionaries. State Senator Scott Bennett says the dictionaries will help inmates who participate in classes offered through Danville Area Community College….
Dr. David Harris is the Director of Prison Programs at DACC. He outlined the classes which are taught at the Danville Correctional Center….
Dr. Harris says the programs can truly change lives, and he noted one such inmate who made a difference by taking classes….
Professor Stefanie Davis says the programs help prepare inmates for successful job placement and lower the risk of re-offense. ‘’Our students are working hard to make big changes in their lives, and dictionaries, thesauruses, and grammar books are important tools for developing much needed literacy skills,’’ said Davis.
