Terre Haute is a big step closer to getting a casino…and possibly killing any chances for Danville to get one. The Indiana Senate on Tuesday approved a sweeping plan that will change how people gamble in the state. It allows sports betting, more blackjack, and moving a casino to Terre Haute.
The Indiana House is yet to vote on the legislation but is expected to approve it.
Legislators in Springfield have discussed for years the possibility of expanding gambling and allowing more casinos – including one for Danville. But efforts to get final approval for expanding gambling in Illinois have thus far been unsuccessful. And if Terre Haute succeeds in getting a casino many local leaders feel it would end any chances for Danville to get one.
