Two members of the Danville City Council are calling on the city to recognize the seven plaintiffs who – in the 1980s – filed a federal lawsuit which led to changing the city’s form of government. Alderman Lloyd Randle noted one of them, Eugene ‘Radio’ Thompson, was laid to rest Tuesday.
Randle said the city council should ‘’make it a priority’’ to recognize the plaintiffs. And he said he plans to meet next week with Acting Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. to discuss it. Vice Mayor Brenda Brown says all seven of the plaintiffs should be honored, although some are now deceased.
The suit resulted with Danville changing from a mayor and four commissioners to a mayor and fourteen aldermen.
