For the fourteenth time this year…an Illinois State Police squad car has been struck because of motorists failing to obey Scott’s law. And this time, a state trooper was seriously injured along Interstate 55 in St. Clair County Wednesday night.
Scott’s law requires motorists to pull to a different lane or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles stopped along Illinois highways.
In Wednesday night’s incident an Illinois State Trooper had positioned his squad car along Interstate 55 to slow traffic approaching an accident scene. The trooper was out on foot with emergency lights on his squad car activated when both he and his squad car were struck by a semi tractor trailer. The trooper was taken to a hospital in serious, but stable condition.
The accident which the trooper had responded to involved a vehicle which struck a light pole, knocking it down across the highway. Seven other vehicles hit the light pole before troopers arrived on the scene.
