A proposal to have Danville businesses register with the city is no longer being considered. Mayor Rickey Williams Junior told members of the City Council’s Public Services Committee last night (March 26th) that another way has been found to deal with businesses which fail to pay taxes.
Mayor Williams says he will continue with plans to present a budget proposal which includes hiking the hotel-motel tax and the fee for large solid waste set-outs even though they may not pass. Alderman Steve Foster has proposed that the city council dip into the $4-million dollars in reserves in sanitary sewer and solid waste funds to fill a more than $200-thousand dollar projected budget shortfall.
The full city council is expected to vote on the budget proposals at its meeting on Tuesday, April 2nd.
