Danville School District 118’s Building and Grounds Director notes the summer break is only 45 days. Skip Truex and his staff are going to be very busy during that period. During a school board meeting last night Truex outlined some of the improvements coming to local schools this summer. Just a few of the projects include:
- Elevator work at Danville High School, along with improvements to restrooms. New LED lighting will be installed in the field house, and improvements are also planned in the welding and automotive shops.
- At Meade Park Elementary School – parking lot and driveway improvements are planned along with replacement of the gym floor.
- At Southwest School new fencing is planned along with some other improvements.
- At South View Upper Elementary School – heating and air conditioning repairs are on tap.
- At North Ridge Middle School more cameras will be added and a fire hydrant belonging to the district will be replaced.
- At Liberty Elementary School more door exit alarms will be installed and the district is looking into improving lighting in the building.
- At Northeast Elementary Magnet School a new camera system will be installed.
- At Garfield School some tuck pointing is planned along with some chimney work.
- At Edison School cafeteria and kitchen work is planned.
- At Mark Denman Elementary School improvements are planned around a playground-basketball area.
Truex says those are just some of the many projects planned this summer. No outside events will be taking place at Danville High School this summer because of the work that will be done on the restrooms and elevator.
